GRG Column Casings
A range of glass reinforced gypsum column casings designed to be plastered or rendered and painted on site after installation. They are strong, quick and easy to install and offer an alternative to pre-finished columns in a wide range of applications including commercial buildings , hotels, retail interiors, in both new build and refurbishment situations where structural elements need to be decoratively concealed.
In addition to the standard ranges, bespoke items in almost any shape or size can be produced, with high levels of intricate detail. Copies can also be made from original sections removed from site for restoration projects.
The casings are manufactured from alpha calcium sulphate semi-hydrate (plaster)with glass fibre mat. Casings are mechanically fixed to timber battens fixed to existing columns. Joints and fixings can be concealed using a plaster mix on site.
Dimensions:
Standard diameters - 200 mm to 1200 mm.
Standard heights from 2800 mm to 4000 mm. Not all heights are available in all diameters.
Semi-circular casings are available.
Thickness: Generally between 8 mm and 15 mm.
Weight: GRG casings are hand cast products and weight and density will vary.
Surface finish: Smooth ex-mould unfinished white plaster designed to accept paint or any other finish made for an absorbent surface.
Accessories: The column casing is complete - no accessories are required.
The casings are not structural and structural elements need to be protected with a proprietary fire protection system. The casings can, however, be treated as a non-combustible building element and have a Class 0 surface spread of flame.
The casing material is absorbent and can be susceptible to fungal growth if stored in a damp environment.
The casing joints should not be considered air or watertight and the casings should not be immersed in water or be subject to continuous water distress, e.g. drips. The casing material is absorbent and if used in a high humidity environment, care should be taken to ensure that the surfaces are sealed by the use of water-resisting paint. The casings are not suitable for external use or in wet areas such as bathrooms or swimming pools, see our GRP range for such applications.
